Welcome, Jacob!
This undeniably cute sea otter is 7 years old and hails from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Jacob lives at
Sea Cliffs, where he is already a hit with keepers and visitors alike.
“Jake is very friendly and spends a lot of time at the exhibit’s front window interacting with park guests,” said the Aquarium’s General Curator David DeNardo, “He is well trained and very smart.”
Sea otters often float on their backs at the surface of the water. In the wild, to stay anchored in one place, they will entangle themselves in strands of seaweed. Generally solitary, they occasionally rest together in loose-knit groups called rafts.
Jacob particularly enjoys playing with his blue toy, which his keeper stuffs with fish for enrichment. Sea otters love to make a game of eating! When they find a new food, they’ll sniff it, paw it, and pound it before trying it out.
